NAEYC Code of Ethics

“Respect the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of each individual (child, family member, and colleague)”

“To advocate for and ensure that all children, including those with special needs, have access to the support services needed to be successful”.

“We shall care for and educate children in positive emotional and social environments that are cognitively stimulating and that support each child’s culture, language, ethnicity, and family structure”.

The code of ethics above are some of the most important things to be mindful of as a future early childhood professional.

DEC Code of Ethics

“We shall demonstrate the highest standards of personal integrity, truthfulness, and honesty in all
our professional activities in order to inspire the trust and confidence of the children and families
and of those with whom we work”. ~ As a early childhood professional I want to lead by example and let my actions show the importance of moral and ethical principles.

“We shall honor and respect the diverse backgrounds of our colleagues including such diverse
characteristics as sexual orientation, race, national origin, religious beliefs, or other affiliations”.~ I think it is important to understand that every person is different for a variety of reasons and their personal preferences should not interfere with how they are treated.

“We shall be responsible for maintaining the appropriate national, state, or other credential or licensure requirements for the services we provide while maintaining our competence in practice and research by ongoing participation in professional development and education activities”. ~ It’s important to be in compliance with the state requirements but more importantly, it is a mandate for me to stay current with the field of early childhood.

The article “An Environment that Positively Impacts Young Children” is a good article that provides tips on how to help make children comfortable within the classroom. The article gives insight on a child’s view of an environment and how a child learns.

“Individual character involves honoring and embracing certain core ethical values; honesty, respect, responsibility . . . Parents must teach their children from the earliest age the difference between right and wrong. But we must all do our part”

“If you live long enough, you’ll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you’ll be a better person. It’s how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit.”
